At 64, most of my peers feel they’ve built something meaningful over 30-40 years – a family, a career, a company, a network of sincere relationships.
For those of us in semi or full retirement, a new chapter is here, one with the means and freedom to choose what’s next.
In talking with peers, I’ve noticed it’s easy to stay busy, but harder to feel connected and purposeful. That said, at this point in life, most of us know our best days still occur when we use our talents to help others.
The Grateful Connector profiles Southeastern Wisconsin nonprofits that meet essential human needs. These stories are designed to connect you with organizations that would love your talents, wisdom, and experience. Readers here are no longer thinking, “How can I succeed?”, but rather, “How and where can I best make a difference?”
Personally, I love organizing events to raise awareness for causes close to my heart. For others, it’s serving on a board, mentoring a leader, offering financial advice, tutoring a student, providing companionship or hospice visits, or doing building maintenance. In my wife’s case, it’s growing healthy produce at Kinship Community Food Center’s urban garden. There are unlimited opportunities to help those in need in our community.
My hope is that The Grateful Connector will inspire you to “connect” with people in need, creating enriching experiences for you and those you help.
